- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 oz each) tomato paste
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions
First, I start by boiling my lasagna noodles according to the package directions. Al dente is the way to go since they’ll continue cooking in the oven. While the noodles are cooking, I prepare the sauce. In a large skillet, I brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat with the chopped onion and garlic until everything is nicely browned. The aromas at this stage are simply heavenly!
