Million Dollar Italian Lasagna

Next, I move on to the cheese mixture. In a bowl, I combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. This mixture is creamy and delicious, making it one of my favorite parts of the lasagna. After that, I bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Once they’re done, I drain and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Now, it’s time for the assembly! In my baking dish, I spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by three noodles, then a layer of the ricotta mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella. I repeat these layers until all my ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of meat sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

I cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and pop it into a preheated oven at 375°F for about 25 minutes. Then, the magic happens! I remove the foil and give it an additional 15-20 minutes to allow that lovely cheese to get bubbly and golden. Once it’s out of the oven, I let my lasagna sit for about 15 minutes before slicing into it. Seriously, the anticipation is half the fun as the savory scent fills your home!

Pro Tips for Best Results

One thing I always recommend is seasoning each layer. When I first made this dish, I used minimal seasoning, thinking it was enough. However, I learned that each layer deserves a sprinkle of salt and pepper to truly enhance the flavors. Trust me, it makes a world of difference!

Also, consider letting your lasagna sit before serving. I know it’s tempting to dig right in, but letting it cool allows the layers to set nicely, making it easier to serve. When sliced, the layers are intact, and the presentation is just as important as the taste!

Lastly, try using freshly grated cheese instead of pre-shredded. I tested it both ways, and the fresh stuff melts so beautifully, giving an incredible texture and flavor that the pre-packaged ones just can’t match!

Common Mistakes to Avoid

One common mistake is overcooking the noodles. It’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the kitchen, but make sure to follow the package instructions and cook them al dente. They’ll continue to cook during baking, and we don’t want mushy noodles! (See the next page below to continue…)
