German Chocolate Poke Cake

Ingredients

– 1 box of German chocolate cake mix
– 1 cup of water
– 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
– 3 large eggs
– 1 jar (12 oz) of chocolate fudge sauce
– 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
– 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
– 1 cup of shredded coconut
– 1 cup of chopped pecans

Equipment Needed

– Mixing bowls
– Electric mixer
– 9×13-inch baking pan
– Toothpicks or wooden skewers
– Spatula
– Saucepan

Step-by-Step Instructions

To start, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. I usually mix them for about two to three minutes until the batter is smooth and well combined. Pour that delicious batter into your greased 9×13-inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once done, let it cool for about 15 minutes in the pan. While it’s cooling, I prepare the poke cake filling: in a bowl, whisk together the chocolate fudge sauce and sweetened condensed milk until smooth. After the cake has cooled slightly, take a toothpick or wooden skewer and poke holes all over the surface of the cake. This step is so important because it allows the chocolate and milk mixture to soak in and makes it extra decadent! (See the next page below to continue steps…)
