Ingredients
- 4 large apples (I love using Granny Smith for their tartness)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to keep those apples from browning)
- Optional: ½ cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans)
Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowls
- Baking dish (9×13 inches works great)
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Knife and cutting board
- Fork or pastry cutter (for those crumbly toppings)
Step-by-Step Instructions
First, I start by preheating my oven to 350°F (175°C). While that’s warming up, I peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. I usually go for a combination of crunchy and tart apples to give the dish a wonderful depth of flavor. After tossing the apple slices in lemon juice, I add in the cinnamon, and sometimes, if I’m feeling a bit indulgent, a sprinkle of brown sugar. Once everything is coated, I transfer those apples into my greased baking dish. (See the next page below to continue steps…)
