Dr Pepper Chili

Ingredients

– 1 pound ground beef or turkey
– 1 can (12 oz) Dr Pepper
– 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
– 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
– 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juice
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons chili powder
– 1 teaspoon cumin
– 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions

Equipment Needed

– Large skillet or Dutch oven
– Wooden spoon or spatula
– Knife and cutting board
– Measuring cups and spoons
– Can opener

Step-by-Step Instructions

To begin, brown the ground beef (or turkey) in your large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. As it cooks, I love to break it apart with my spatula to ensure even browning. Once the meat is browned, I drain any excess grease and add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until they become translucent and aromatic—just a few minutes. The symphony of smells at this point always makes me hungry! (See the next page below to continue steps…)
