Ingredients
– 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade if you prefer)
– 1 cup brown sugar, packed
– 1/3 cup cornstarch
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 4 cups milk
– 4 large egg yolks
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– Whipped cream, for topping
Equipment Needed
– Pie dish
– Mixing bowls
– Whisk
– Saucepan
– Rubber spatula
– Measuring cups and spoons
Step-by-Step Instructions
To start, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If you’re using a pre-made pie crust, you can place it in the pie dish now and blind-bake it until it’s lightly golden, which should take about 10 minutes. If you’re feeling ambitious and want to make your own crust, I commend you! As that crust cools, we can work on the filling. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps, and bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat. Don’t forget to stir constantly! It thickens quite quickly. (See the next page below to continue steps…)
