– 1 cup buttermilk
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 3 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Equipment Needed
– Mixing bowls
– Electric mixer or whisk
– 9-inch pie dish
– Potato masher or fork
– Measuring cups and spoons
– Baking sheet (optional for catching drips)
Step-by-Step Instructions
To begin, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). While the oven is warming, I usually prepare my sweet potatoes. I peel and chop them into chunks, then boil them until they are tender. Drain the water, and then mash them until smooth. This creates a wonderful base for the pie filling. Once they are mashed, allow them to cool slightly before mixing in the other ingredients.
