Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Ingredients

– 1 pound ground beef
– 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
– 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
– 1 large egg
– 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
– 1 cup beef broth
– 1 cup sliced onions for gravy
– 1 tablespoon flour (for thickening)
– Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Equipment Needed

– Mixing bowl
– Frying pan or skillet
– Spatula
– Measuring cups and spoons
– Whisk
– Serving platter

Step-by-Step Instructions

To start, I take a mixing bowl and combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. I really enjoy this part—getting my hands in there to mix everything until it’s well combined. Once it’s all mixed, I shape the mixture into oval patties, about three-quarters of an inch thick. This is key because if they’re too thick, they won’t cook evenly. Now, it’s time to get my frying pan on the stove. I heat up the olive oil over medium heat and, when shimmering, gently place the patties into the pan. They only need about 4-5 minutes on each side to get that beautiful golden brown color.
