Apple Pie with Caramel Drizzle

Ingredients

– 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 tablespoon sugar
– 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
– 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
– 6 cups thinly sliced and peeled apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp are my favorites)
– ¾ cup sugar
– 2 teaspoons cinnamon
– ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 tablespoon cornstarch
– 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Equipment Needed

– Large mixing bowl
– Rolling pin
– Pie dish (9-inch)
– Knife and cutting board
– Measuring cups and spoons
– Saucepan (for caramel sauce, if making homemade)
– Whisk

Step-by-Step Instructions

To start, I first prepare the pie crust because it benefits from some chill time. In my mixing bowl, I combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Then, I add in the chilled and diced butter using a pastry cutter (or my hands) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Next, I gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing just until the dough holds together. Once done, I wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This chilling really helps to ensure a flaky crust! (See the next page below to continue steps…)
